"Independent Kingdom of India" typically refers to the numerous kingdoms and polities that existed independently of the Mughal Empire, particularly during the period of its decline and after its collapse. This includes kingdoms like Marwar, Mysore, and the Maratha Confederacy, as well as others that asserted autonomy during this time. While the British East India Company eventually gained control over much of the Indian subcontinent, various regions and kingdoms maintained varying degrees of independence until the formal partition of British India in 1947.
